What (internal) hard drive is best for my computer?
Question:
I have a Gateway GP7I-600 (s/n 0018989116).
It has:
- Pentium III 600 MHz
- 383 Mb RAM
- Windows XP SP2
My current hard drive has 14 GB (all of which I've used up). I'd like one that's at least 80-100 GB, but I don't want to spend more than $100 or so (I don't want a refurbished one). I'm pretty sure my current drive is IDE/ATA... is that what I need to look for when buying a new hard drive? What's EIDE? SATA? PATA? (I keep seeing these abbreviations when I look at hard drives and I have no idea what they are.)
Any help or advice anyone can give would be awesome. Also, if you could provide a link (on Amazon, Circuit City, Walmart, etc.) to a drive you recommend for me, it'd be a ton of help. =)

Answer:
You were right initially, you need a drive that matches the drive controller you have in your computer.
If you have an IDE/ATA controller, then get a drive that matches that. There's no reason to worry about SATA or PATA, you don't have the controller for those drives. Your controller *may* already be an EIDE controller, so I'd investigate that.
