How do I access an old hard drive?
Question:
I had an old computer and it broke but I saved the hard drive and I want to plug it back into my new computer and read the files but I have no clue to do it could someone help me with this? the old hard drive is a Western Digital Enhanced IDE Hard Drive 120.0GB MODEL:WD1200BB-22FTA0
Is it also possible to put it inside and external adapter thing to use an USB to plug into the computer?
I forgot i have already tried the external thing and I couldnt find anything at all
Answer:
The best way to this is to open up the computer and install the old drive so just follow these instructions and it should be simple.
1. Look at the back of you old drive and on the right hand side next to the power connection you will see a set of pins called jumpers set the little sleeve to Cable select there should be a sticker on the drive telling you how to do this.
2 Once this is done install the drive in one of the drive bays as we call them in the computer and plug in the thin ribbon back into the drive. Now before you go any further make double sure the red line on the side of the ribbon is facing the power connector or the hard drive won't work. Now and finally plug in the power cord to the drive close the PC up and turn on the Computer. You should now have two working hard drives in you computer but if not go into your bios By pressing one of the following keys in your boot up, DEL , ESC or what ever keys your screen tells you to use and change your settings in the bios to auto detect. Now this my or my not be needed at all to set thing up correctly so good luck I hope this helps.
